First post in AGES
I’ve seen enough grief online about wide gamut monitors and over/under-saturated reds. Well, here is what works for me in Win7.
1. DON’T use the color profile Dell included on the disk. Yes very counter-intuitive I know. Set the monitor to Adobe RGB.
2. Control Panel> Color Management > Add in Adobe RGB 1998 in the bottom pane of the first tab.
3. In the third tab, Device Profile > Adobe RGB 1998, and Viewing condition rules> WCS profile for ICC viewing conditions.
4. Go here, install, and then setup the plugin to use Adobe RGB. Opera is still my main browser
5. Setup your other color management capable programs to use the AdobeRGB and now most things should appear properly.
What happens when you use the Dell supplied monitor profile is that ARGB tagged pictures looks horrendously unsaturated in color managed programs. Setting it this way should let everything, including untagged and SRGB, to display correctly. I had it set up awhile ago, but didn’t feel like writing anything until someone prodded me for how to set it up correctly
There you go. Still alive… or something like that.
List format update, because I like lists (and said so many times before):
Borked knee reconstruction.
Semi borked knee = crutches and leg braced.
Semi borked knee healed. yay!
Didn’t do much other than that.
I’ll make a new page on my ACL reconstruction later. I’ve documented my road to recovery.
and apparently too busy to pay for the website. GG TYVM Come again. At least it is back now
Quick summary:
Busy writing stuff
Busy coding stuff
Busy worrying about work stuff
Busy looking at car stuff. Daddy needs a new ride
I did have enough time to decide that macbook air isn’t for me. I may get an Asus U6Sg though. Magnesium chassis. MMMMM! I need to put away enough money to overhaul all my computers when Nehalem comes. That is why I didn’t want to waste the money on a MBA. It fits my needs almost perfectly, except for the non-changeable battery. Not a deal breaker but I could spend much less and get almost an equivalent computer. Just a little heavier, faster and less sessay (of course it won’t have those awesome Macbook keyboards).
Oh, GT200 is coming soon. I am wasting money on that.
Yes. The intarweb became even more stupid. Luckily, it was just for 1 day. I guess it is back to mild retardation now.
All the stupid pranks and fake announcements were mostly dumb. I did like Youtube’s rick roll. Hilarious. Rick roll is funny. PERIOD
Oh, NVidia launched their 9800GTX on April first. The only joke was the product… Oh don’t get me wrong, I am still getting one. Though, it is still nothing more than an overclocked 8800GTS 512M
busy^999999. Stupid websites
AcroRD32info.exe I hate this thing. To disable it, just use Shell Extension Manager, and go down to .pdf to disable it. Bam. It no longer launches when you mouse over a pdf.
Looking at them for ~250-260 bucks right now. orly? Q66 has already dropped to 200 bucks in selected places, and not that hard to find for 220. Q66 is faster clock for clock, cheaper, use less power, cooler, AND overclocks higher. What are these Phenom chips for again? Don’t even start on the Q9450 rapage. Thank you, come again.
Definite BS in AMD’s press release in the tri-core processors.
When paired with the AMD 780 series chipset, AMD Phenom X3 processors can deliver significant enhancements in gaming and high-definition experiences for mainstream PC customers.
See here. Even a quad core can’t regularly beat the Intel’s E82. Let’s not even mention E84 and E85. Thank you for playing. Nice try AMD. Phenom are still nothing more than low end processors that you’re trying to pawn on the less knowledgeable public. Shame on you. Well, I do think it has decent bang for the buck, except that it’ll get raped overclocked vs overclocked. Tri-core. HAR. Wonder how many people will bite into the marketing that 3 core is better than Intel’s 2
I’ll give AMD that they have the best ONBOARD video… Except that that is like saying someone is smart for a retarded kid.
Phenom is a dud, next generation please.
PS, these may make nice office computers, but you can get X2 for much cheaper and notice not much difference in speed in your office applications. Wait, what are these processors for again? X2 will do almost anything you need. If it isn’t enough, Intel CPU aren’t that much more and has better performance usually. May be if money is tight, and you really need a computer for compressing videos. Then it may make sense. Otherwise for most multimedia applications, X2 is more than enough.
One of the old clanmate is a project manager of a new cs mod. Didn’t even know
I am planning my next computer already. You know the Nehalem
I got my first component picked out: Cosmos S. It looks so awesome
Edit: 2nd thought, I better stick with yet another LianLi V1000. Stick with what you like. I should have done that instead of getting my Aurora case… It is ok, but LianLi is much better for little more money….
Another aha! moment for me. I was lazy and didn’t really check my embedded video for xhtml validity. I just ASSumed that it was. Well, it wasn’t. It included the embed element for the browser to degrade to, except embed tags aren’t XHTML valid. Since I’ve claimed the pages will be XHTML valid, so I should at least make an effort to keep it that way.
The valid way of doing flash is using the object element with the attribute of type=”application/x-shockwave-flash” data=”something.swf”. Before the closing object tag, you can add in alternatives if it cannot find the plugin. See here for full explantion. Their example degrades gracefully, but I personally think that we should just leave a text message telling them to get a new/better browser that properly supports the latest web standards.
I seem to be a magnet for the mentally challenged, or at least the delusional. I just got a weirdest phone call, EVER… No matter what I say, they would not believe that I do not know them. They insisted that: I have met them during Chinese New Years, she has the right number, she has the right person (eventhough she didn’t know my name). I’ve only met limited amount of people during that time and I did not give out my number. Ya, she wants me to call her sometimes. Ya, FAT CHANCE, TYVM black list.
I knew I could’ve just hanged up, but they would probably just call right back. How annoying.
Oh ya, that wasted 3 minutes of my time, plus another 3-4 minutes typing this up, including the edit to add this.
Edit edit: Just checked out my phone log. My received call time is 6 times my dialed call time. That shows you how much I enjoy calling people and talking on the phone. So the moral is: DO NOT CALL ME UNLESS IT IS IMPORTANT. TYVM BLNT.
Well. Since most people who read this aren’t living in 1997, I am going to drop the 800×600 friendly page width. Thinking about building for ~1280 wide page. I am gonna play with it for awhile to find the optimal width. I mean, I do sometimes blog while chilled out on the couch with the page zoomed in. So building it too wide would not make it zoom friendly.
Edit:
I let the page scale wider but it doesn’t look very good to me when I let it spread out from 1280 to 1920 pixel width. I’ve tweak a little here and there with the final width of the wrapper at only 940 pixels, but it allows about 25% more text per line now. Good enough. It doesn’t change the look too much, which is good
edit2:
I am currently building a theme that looks like my old blog. Who knows when I’ll finish. I need time, it is something of a luxury right now
Thinking about a Q66 G0 to replace my E63 on the NAS/FTP/encoding/testing/vmware/Do-it-all server. Though, I am having a hard time deciding if that is the route I want to take. My E84 has the DTS bug that everyone is ranting about. So I want to replace it as soon as possible when it is fixed. That means it’ll leave me with 2 live processors to go on a keychain if I get the Q66. So the second option is of course just stick the E84 in the server when I get a new processor. This will let me have a proper CPU for overclocking and make my server faster. Though Quad core option is still probably better, at least until the popular encoders gets the SSE4.1 boost. Only the 1.5 year old E63 will be left over.
I’ll have yet another videocard left over when I upgrade to the GF 9 serie. I am NOT putting my 88GTS in the server. That will stick with the ultra efficient 76GT. I mean, 76GT uses <15W TYVM vs 115 or so for the 88GTS. Of course I could just sell it for cheap, just keep it around for spare parts until NVidia release GPU accelerated physics, or god forbid yet another computer with the E63
other planned server upgrade:
2×750GB drives -Retiring 320gig drives. 3×500GB will cost a bit less, but 2 leaves room for more drives.
More ram - Don’t know if I want to reinstall OS on it to take advantage of 4GB.
Intel Gigabit ethernet card -I am getting shitty throughput right now with the onboard Marvel chip
May be one of these.
PS: All I would need is mobo, case and power to complete another quick computer… That can be had for less than 150 bucks.
MY ENGRISH HUUUUURTS.
